ItIt’s hard to write an interesting intro when describing Asian gadgets. If that gadget is pretty good, though, it kind of helps alleviate the problem. Thank the Lord, as this next Asian wonder is one of the few but very good ones. China's very own Owl company has just released its first iMpc UMPC. I know... it sounds strange but tell that to Owl.

It seems that the maker's desire to show that its device is more than your usual PDA has led it to name it the iMpc, which in normal English is translated “I am PC.” In order to prove that it really is a PC, this PDA-sized tablet comes equipped with Windows XP Home Edition. It has a 1.2GHz VIA C7 CPU, 1GB DDR RAM memory, 16GB SSD storage with SD/MMC storage expansion card slot and a 5.6 inch TFT touchscreen running in 800 x 480 resolution.

It sports two USB 2.0 ports, VGA output, Ethernet, headphone output, microphone input, has a speaker and even allows the use of an optical mouse. How's that for “wide range of options?” It supports 802.11 b/g Wireless Internet, has a 2-megapixel camera (placed in the device's front side), measures just 5.9 x 3.7 x 0.9 inches in size, and weighs just 12.3 ounces. I expected a low battery life (it's Asian, after all), but frankly, I got more. Its 4800mAh battery offers up to five hours of running time.

The iMpc A10 is priced at just 438 USD. You will have a hard time getting it if you do not live in China. Yes... they went through all that trouble to build an above-average UMPC that costs a lot less than most and they're not preparing (at least, not that I know of) an official launch in other parts of the world. Ironic, isn't it?

IBM to enter "cloud computing" market

IBM will sell a suite of Web-based collaboration software for businesses, including contact management, instant messaging and file sharing programs, the computing giant's biggest effort to date to sell software as a service.

The move, to be announced Wednesday, pits International Business Machines Corp. against companies that are already established in the fledgling market for software as a service including: Microsoft, Google and privately held Zoho. (Msnbc.com is a joint venture of Microsoft and NBC Universal.)

IBM will charge companies $10 to $45 per user per month for its software suite, which it will host at its own data centers and deliver via the Web, a company executive said in an interview on Tuesday. The suite will be available April 7.

"Cloud computing" — one of the latest buzz words in Silicon Valley — refers to a variety of ways in which technology companies offer computing services over the Web from remote data centers, seemingly from the cloud of the Internet.

Tech research company Gartner estimates that the global market for cloud-based business software, computing services and storage will total about $10 billion this year. That remains a fraction of the $223 billion Gartner is projecting for the old-fashioned business software market alone.

Hewlett-Packard has made its mark in the cloud computing space with today’s rollout of HP Cloud Assure, a new SaaS designed to help businesses adopt cloud-based services in a secure platform.

HP Cloud Assure is made up of a suite of the company’s software, including HP Application Security Center, HP Performance Center and HP Business Availability Center. HP will also provide enterprises with a team of engineers to perform security scans, test performance, and monitor availability.

The purpose of HP Cloud Assure’s platform is three-fold. The software will maintain security in the cloud by scanning networks, operating systems and web applications. Second, the software will ensure performance by making sure cloud services meet bandwith and connectivity requirements. Other interesting features include:

Integrated antenna - which further makes the device easy to carry around.

Palm Pre vs iPhone 3.0

The upcoming release of Palm Pre will be a hot one. Even though the Palm Pre was dubbed as the iPhone killer, it remains to be seen if this new smartphone from Palm will really displace iPhone. The Palm Pre was designed to compete with Apple's iPhone but the catch here is that it was not designed to compete for the current iPhone but the upcoming generation.

But even before the Palm Pre's release, Apple already released a software update version 3.0 to its iPhones. The software basically fixes the features that people are looking for in the iPhone. The update will actually compete with the highlighted features of Palm Pre.

The Search Function. Palm Pre's search functionality allows keyword hunts in "web and user’s applications, contacts, and dialing information," as well as web pages. This was not available in iPhone until the version 3.0 software release.

Multitasking. Palm Pre can do "multiple activities" as compared to Apple iPhone which lacks this feature. But again, this was addressed in the iPhone version 3.0.

Calendar syncing. The Pre uses Palm's Synergy to link up Outlook, Google and even Facebook calendars to one location, whereas iPhone 2.0's Calendar app is more than a little limited--you can't even invite meeting requests from the phone. The new firmware adds support for Exchange, CalDAV and .ics formats for subscribing to different calendars, and it'll let you create meeting invitations. CalDAV is supported by Google Calendar, Yahoo Calendar beta and others, making it a now potentially fully-synchronized Calendar app.

Camera. This is one feature that iPhone really lacks while the Pre has a 3-megapixel digital camera with an LED flash light.

Stereo Bluetooth. The Pre has A2DP, the current iPhone doesn't.

Copy and Paste functionality. The iPhone does not support copy and paste functionality while Palm Pre does.

But again, all these mentioned features are to be expected from iPhone in its version 3.0 release. So we will really have to wait for the results whether Palm Pre will topple iPhone.

The automatic and quartz versions of the TechnoMarine BlackWatch feature slightly different designs. The automatic model has a black dial and a crown positioned at 9 o’clock, while the quartz version has a blue or black dial and a crown at 3 o’clock.

The dial of the timepiece is completed with applique hour-markers and big-sized numerals provided with Superluminova coating for perfect readability in reduced light conditions. The face of the watch is shielded by anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The 10-hour, 30-minute and small seconds counters are located at 2, 10 and 6 o’clock respectively. The date window is found at 4 o’clock.

Apple Preps OLED Netbook, LG Sources Claim

In the vast world of IT, very few companies create such a large amount of rumors regarding their products as Apple does. The main reason for this situation is the fact that the company from Cupertino is absolutely crazy about maintaining the secrecy regarding its upcoming products, thus pushing the curiosity of both dedicated fanboys and fangirls and technology enthusiasts to new heights.

As most of you probably know, this week, Apple previewed the future iPhone 3.0 OS, which is set to bring about a whole new set of goodies for its users when it becomes official later on this year. Apparently, that's not the only thing the company has in store for 2009, since sources within the display solutions' industry claim that an Apple netbook is very likely to make its appearance on the market as well.

Hence, as Smarthouse reports, quoting sources from Korean OLED panel manufacturer LG, it seems that Apple already has a fully-working prototype of a netbook, which should be manufactured by a Taiwan-based OEM and feature an LG OLED screen. Plus, to make things even better, the netbook will apparently feature a touchscreen technology, similar to one of Asus' latest offerings.

However, that's not all. The same sources claim that some brand-new (and yet to be announced) iPhone and iPod touch models will also feature OLED displays. If these statements prove to be true, then this will bring extra confirmation to the rumor that new revisions of the iPhone and iPod touch are scheduled for a summer 2009 release.

In any case, for the time being, you should take this with a pinch of salt, but the fact of the matter is that all of these pieces of information seem to connect in a pretty logical way, so there might be some truth to them after all.

Lenovo Debunks "Pocket Yoga" Netbook Rumors

As you might remember from one of our articles published yesterday, some photos of a new netbook concept by Lenovo appeared on the company's Flickr photostream, sparking instant debates and expectations for a fresh “lifestyle PC” (given the close resemblance of the photos with Sony's Vaio P). However, it would seem that the “Pocket Yoga” will never go beyond the concept phase, or at least that's Lenovo's official position on this issue.

Hence, probably after witnessing the amount of speculation that was created by the appearance of the respective photos, Johnson Li, Director of Lenovo’s Beijing Innovation Center, decided to make a statement regarding this issue on the Design Matters blog, setting things straight regarding the alleged pocket-sized PC.

Mr. Li has declared that “The picture was of a pocket-sized PC we developed about two years ago, well before the current netbook craze and the introduction of a similar form factor by one of our competitors. Since the design has been shown in public in the past and received some attention, I thought it might be of some interest to discuss the design inspiration and share some photos and drawings of the device.”

Without a doubt, you can pick up from this statement some hints regarding the Vaio P, including the fact that Sony has more or less “used” this design for its “lifestyle PC.” Of course, Mr. Li doesn't really accuse Sony of “borrowing” the design, but if indeed this concept has been around for two years, it's not really impossible for Sony's designers to have taken at least a quick look at it.

Within the blog post, Mr. Li goes on to describe the concept, as well as the “Yoga” moniker (derived from a folding concept inspired by the practice of yoga by one of the company's New Zealand-based designers). However, he also points out the fact that we should expect great things from the Lenovo design center in the future as well, which leads us to believe that there might be some goodies being readied as we speak.

Over the past year or so, we saw a very large number of iPod docking solutions arrive on the market, simply because, after all, there seems to be no ending to the popularity of the portable player from Apple. Moreover, we saw some iPod-ready TVs being announced (JVC, anyone?), but the device you're about to see as follows, namely the Cube3 from Elonex, manages to combine both of the concepts mentioned above in a very interesting and original manner.

I’m not an EntreCard expert but i’ve been using it since few months ago and have seen the benefit for my blogs. Now i would like to share what i found during my membership on the last few month. This time i’m going to talk about tips to advertise with EntreCard. But once again, this is based on my experience and i’m sure some of you probably have difference experience or opinions and you are welcome to discuss.

For those of you who are EntreCard member you must know that one of the thing that you can do in EntreCard is to advertise your blog on other’s blogs. But how you can make your ads effective. You may have a lot of EC credits and you are ready to spend it. But how if it doesn’t work and you don’t get anything in return? These tips probably can help you so you can get the most of ads you purchased in EntreCard :

1. It’s not about Price

Some people in EntreCard just browse through the EC campaign, select the lowest price and then click on the Advertise link. But another people are willing to spend much of their credits to advertise. None of them are wrong or right. But the thing that you should keep in mind when choosing an ads is to look at the number of credits you have and how much you want to spend.

2. Choose a blog that worth of credits

I learned that sometimes people may just look at the blog a second and then decide to advertise on it without thinking about the blog quality. What i want to say is that there are many factors to consider before choosing a blog. So choose the blog that worth of credits you spend. On the next part i would discuss more about this.

3. Consider about Click Through Rate (CTR)

The same concept with other advertising methods are also applicable in EntreCard. You may know about Click Through Rate (CTR). 9. Don’t be afraid to spend credits

Personally i rarely purchase an expensive ads in EntreCard. While i know this is not good. If you are sure that a blog really works for you so don’t be afraid to spend much credits to purchase the ads. When you get a lot of traffics your blog will grow and then people are willing to spend more credits to advertise on your blog. Means you will get more credits as well then.

10. Make an Advertising Programme

EntreCard is an daily basis advertising program. It means the traffic you get today from EC ads will not be the same with tomorrow. To get a consistent traffics you should make an Advertising Programme. I suggest to have the same and consistent number of ads running everyday. You can decide whether to purchase it daily or purchase ads for few days.

I’m sure you’ll not accept kind of porn blogs to advertise on your blog You are responsible for your Ads Slots - People purchase an ads slot and pay for some credits. You have to consider them as your clients. In return they expect to get traffic from your blog. So you are responsible to help them achieve their goals.

EntreCard Adjust Rules for Upcoming Ad Network

In accordance with the launch of upcoming EntreCard Ad Network, the EntreCard Team has made some adjustments regarding the rules from what previously announced. This is happened after received feedback from EntreCard members through the forum. At least we can see the good will from EntreCard to listen to their members.

Below are the rules that has been adjusted :
Above the Fold - EntreCard finally changed the rule to be “One Page-down” rule. This will be applied to screen resolutions of 1920×1200. So, there will be no more excuse not to place widget with one page-down of your computer screen to comply with the rule. Personally i agree with EntreCard, event if they stick to the “Above the Fold” rule. It means, if you want to be a serious partner of EntreCard either as blogger or advertiser you have to give good priority for their service.

And my suggestion is, if possible put the widget on the best that you can afford.
No credit fee to reject paid ads - EntreCard has officially removed the planned credit-fee to reject paid ads. With this new rule you can reject any ads you don’t like to be viewed on your blog without any fee.

As the EntreCard team is working hard to prepare the new platform for this upcoming launch of Ad Network i’m sure there will be many things more announced, changed and added before the official launch date. But the good news is EntreCard has announced that the Credit system remains the same, and will never change. It means that you’ll still can earn credits all the ways you currently do, and you’ll still be able to spend them on advertising on any blog in the EntreCard network, products and services in EntreCard shop, and giveaways for contest.

What a whirlwind of change to keep up with! And I’m not talking about the economy. Rumors of Google and Twitter…. speculation of Facebook becoming Twitter…. rapid innovation between blog comment engines Disqus and Intense Debate with one snagging support from Mashable while the other still ignores Connect…. How is one to keep up with SEO??

Over the past few weeks I’ve had a number of conversations with organizations in need of efficiency. Startups, single owner businesses, bloggers who need SEO buy have no idea where and how to start. We talked of specific tactics such as title optimization and anchor text, speculated on link building, and even considered more challenging concepts such as the CMS you are using. One kernel emerged: SEO is discussed as directions for the latest gadget are written; by a technical writer. We talk about SEO using our own language, language that escapes most people who perhaps presume ‘anchor text’ is a Hemmingway novel. From that realization, one concept emerged which consistently made sense to folks:

Think of a search engine like a person

4. Content

If we think of Google as a person, there are some simple ways to optimize your site that will have a huge impact.

1. Is there a title at the top of the browser that is more descriptive than just your blog name? If not, why not? Are you using common parlance or whitty buzz words? Is there a call to action?

People will see that title first in Google’s search results. Google sees that title as primary importance. Make sure it is more descriptive than just your blog name which doesn’t mean anything to anyone. Don’t use cute buzzwords as people don’t search for those. And try a call to action that encourages your audience to visit your site.

Keeping this simple, I’m not going to get into HOW to change or edit the title here. Just look and consider whether or not it is ideal. If not, drop me a line and I’ll point you in the right direction to optimizing it.

2. People can only remember so much and you want them to remember your web address. So read it. Can they? Does it use strange characters and codes? Dollar signs and ampersands? Number strings that no one can possibly remember?

If a person won’t remember your web address, you aren’t helping yourself in search either. Look for information about mod-rewrites or simply stress the importance of straightforward, intuitive URLs with your developers.

3. Does the page itself have a title that stands out from the rest of the content? Is there something bold and obvious that says, “This is what the page is about”

A person wants insight to what they are about to read. So does Google.

4. Content is king. Most importantly, do you have any text on the page or is it video, flash, or product details? Without text, there is nothing to consume, nothing to index, nothing to search.

Make sure the text is unique. Again, think of Google like a person; a person only wants to read an article once and any more than that is a waste of their time. If you are rehashing content, filling space with quotes, or featuring text that appears somewhere else on your own site, you are just wasting space. Write something unique and engaging; something a person would enjoy. Most importantly, write something! Video, flash, a PDF, or a product page with few details beyond specs and prices will, 9 times out of 10, fail against a page with unique text to read.

5. Are the links within your site intuitive? Does the link to your link Customer Service say just that or refer to support, FAQs, or some other form of interaction with your business? None are wrong; rather, which is most accurate?

Do you have links within the body of the text on the page or just in some navigation? People like context and content gives them context.

iPod touch Explodes in Kid's Pocket, Fires Up Pants, Mom Sues

The mother of a kid living in Cincinnati, Ohio, is using Apple and ten unnamed retail employees from the Apple Store in Kenwood over an iPod touch that allegedly exploded in the child's pocket. It appears that the boy had the iPod touch in his pocket at school when the unfortunate accident happened, resulting in hospital bills and other monetary losses because of the disintegration of the device and, well, the kid's clothes.

He had to be treated for second degree burns on his leg, had a hole burnt through his pants’ pocket and got an underwear melting to top it all off. Also, according to the lawsuit, "He continues to suffer from both physical and mental conditions which will cause him to suffer pain, mental distress, emotional distress, and otherwise for the rest of his life."

Last week, Apple released the 3rd generation of its ultra-small, ultra-portable player, the shuffle, the new version featuring quite a lot of fresh features, including here the already famous VoiceOver option. Moreover, the shuffle has prompted the launch (or at least announcement) of a very large number of accessories, especially headphones, one of the most interesting being, without a doubt, the inline control adapter kit from Scosche.

One of the main features that differentiates the new shuffle from the old one is the fact that the volume controls have been moved from the body of the player itself to the headphones, which proved to be a pretty big problem for 3rd party peripheral manufacturers. However, this is exactly where the inline control adapter kit comes into play, since it will allow consumers to use any standard set of headphones and also plug their shuffle into any vehicles auxiliary input and maintain full control of the iPod.

Besides this adapter, Scosche has also announced that it intends to develop a whole new family of IDR (Increased Dynamic Range) noise isolating earphones that would give users the ability to play, pause, adjust volume, skip tracks, navigate playlists and hear the name of the song and artist with the press of a button.

For now, we're talking about three earphone models, IDR350M, IDR450M and IDR650M that feature an integrated control surface. Moreover, a miniature microphone built into the back of the control surface allows users to record voice memos on the latest iPod touch, iPod nano and iPod classic 120GB.

According to the company, the headphones are expected to be available this spring and range in price from $49.99 to $99.99, which is rather decent, given their features. No word on the pricing and availability of the inline adapter, though.

Offer rewards for who could refer the most members, or who could submit the most articles, or anything to promote your site. Also remember to squeese in possible keywords in your content, and DO NOT forget meta tags, they are the key to SEO.

You may have noticed, I never mentioned when to submit your site to Google, that's the thing, don't. If google picks up your site before you submit it, you get a way better rank.

Now you have come up with a very good SEO website. Now you need to make sure not to blow it. Whatever you do, DON'T:

1: Have link exchanges with non-relevant sites, this will hurt you.

2: Do not cheat. Cheating is placing "invisible" keywords on your site. (white text on white background) Googlebot picks it up, and boom, no more rank on Google.

3: If you find the need to submit your site, do it, ONCE. If you submit twice then, say goodbye to your rank.

That's all and good luck with the SEO. With this, good keywords, and minimal compition, you will get within the top 20 of Google.

- Image alt tags are very important if you do not have much text on your website but can also help to increase your ranking if you have much text. Use keywords in the alt tags but again do not use them too often.

These are the most important on-page factors to look at. Of course you need to have a valid html code and a good link-structure but the above points are major important and can boost your ranking when done right. Always remember that you can only get a top 10 ranking by also doing off-page optimization.

Off-Page Optimization

A lot can be done wrong when doing offpage optimization. Google had a major update on his algorithm at the beginning of 2007. Did you remember the google bombs that used to make pages rank for not relevant search terms? Doesn't work anymore since that update! They have also updated their spam detector, a lot of peoples websites dropped in the search results because they used paid advertisements at certain traffic portals and other grey-hat methods. The way to go nowadays is called "natural link building". This means you create links over a very long time period using different methods. If you submit to directories, then submit to 10 directories every day over a period of 100 days. This way it seems as if your links were build naturally by other people.

There are many ways you can get back-links to your website in a natural way. You can:

- provide good content and people will link to you without any effort on your part. This is the most natural and most effective way of link building!

- write articles and distribute them to many different article directories. Your articles get picked up by other people who publish your article at their website with a back-link to your website. This way of building back-links is still very natural and can't be detected by search engines. In the worst case they would not count the links in the article directories or only count them once because of duplicate content.

- do 3-way link exchanges. This means you have 2 different websites on 2 different servers with 2 different ip's. You exchange links with other websites by placing their link on your first website and then place the link of your second website on their website. This way you get 1-way links to your second website.

Avoid things like guest-book spamming, ffa sites, link-farms and websites with more than 100 links on the page where your link will be. Finally work on building links every day over a period of at least 100 days. This way you ensure a continues growth of your link-popularity.

Unfortunately, using a tripod in the middle of a city can cause you to receive all sorts of undesired attention. Even if you are on a public street, to all appearances out of the way of other passers-by, operating a digital camera on a tripod can potentially get you into trouble with over-aggressive (but usually well-intentioned) security or police officers.

* Tripods, in many peoples' eyes, cross the line from one being a tourist to one being a professional photographer. Some cities may require photography permits for professionals. Even if your photos are for personal use, arguing this fact may prove pointless.

* Officers might cite security concerns, especially if you are taking photos that include government or transit buildings (in some areas, doing so can arouse a lot of suspicion).

* Some may claim an outdoor art installation or building's facade is copyrighted, requiring a permit or designer's permission to shoot photos in the area.

* On a public sidewalk, you may be told that using a tripod blocks the normal public's right-of-way. On busy streets, especially during rush-hour, this point may be valid.

Set it too fast, though, and your photos will come out dark. Experimentation by bracketing (taking multiple photos of the same subject with slightly-adjusted settings) is key to getting the images you want.

* Adjust what is called the digital camera's ISO settings to allow for quicker exposures at the expense of some noise entering the photo. With most cameras you should be able to adjust this setting to 200; many digital SLRs can give pleasing results with ISO settings of 400 or 800. Sometimes, a more expensive camera and/or a faster lens may help.

* Do not release your digital camera's shutter button until it has finished taking the photo. Even this slight movement can blur photos.

* Steady your digital camera. Hold it close to your body as you shoot. Keep your elbows in and brace them on your chest or stomach. When applicable, keep your camera closer to your face by looking through its viewfinder instead of an LCD screen. Obviously, if your hands are jittery, this can cause camera shake, so if you are more relaxed your photos may turn out clearer.

City photography can be a fun and rewarding experience with new photo opportunities seemingly around every corner. Don't let this enjoyment be spoiled by brushes with security or the law. Consider leaving your tripod at home to avoid attracting excess attention. To offset potential camera shake, practice holding your camera and adjusting its settings to allow for quicker exposures. Toshiba Corporation today announced a prototype hard disk drive (HDD) that uses Discrete Track Recording (DTR) technology to boost capacity to a record-breaking 120 gigabytes (GB) on a single 1.8-inch platter. The drive is the first in the world to apply DTR, a breakthrough technology that boost the areal density of a perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) by a full 50 percent. Toshiba plans to start mass production of HDDs integrating DTR technology in 2009.

The new prototype HDD is a 1.8-inch PMR HDD. Toshiba's latest 1.8-inch HDD in the market offers a single platter capacity of 80GB; application of DTR technology boosts platter capacity to 120GB, and takes the recording density to 516 megabits per square millimeter (333gigabits per square inch). A servo pattern for tracking control is also formed on the disk.

DTR technology increases recording density by forming a "groove" between the tracks on the PMR medium. The groove reduces signal interference between adjacent data tracks, allowing the pitch of the tracks to be shortened. The improved signal quality also contributes to raising the recording density by 50 percent.

The DTR "groove" forming process is most easily applied to small form factor HDDs, such as 1.8 inch and 2.5 inch drives. It will take these drives to a new level of enhanced capacity.

Small form factor HDDs are now found in such applications as mobile PCs, digital audio players, digital video cameras, and car navigation systems. The market has a voracious appetite for larger data capacities, as more powerful networks and applications bring broadband audio-visual capabilities to more products, particularly AV notebook PCs. Large Form iPod Touch To Launch in Fall ‘09

We’ve got this from three independent sources close to Apple: expect a large screen iPod touch device to be released in the Fall of ‘09, with a 7 or 9 inch screen. Prototypes have been seen and handled by one of our sources, and Apple is talking to OEMs in Asia now about mass production.

Apple has been experimenting internally with large form tablet devices for years, one source says, but there was concern that users wouldn’t like the device. The difference now is the iTunes app store, which has thousands of games and other applications that are perfect for a touch screen device with an accelerometer. Apple says more than 300 million applications have been downloaded since the App Store launched in July 2008. Combine the App Store, iTunes and a browser and you have one heck of a device.

We don’t have any information on pricing. The current iPod touch, with a 3.5 inch screen, starts at $229. The 32 GB model is $399. We expect the price on the larger iPod touch to be significantly higher.

Apple rumors, particularly Apple tablet rumors, tend to come and go. I’m not saying Apple is definitely launching a large form iPod Touch. But sources I trust are saying they are currently planning to, and one source has actually held the device.

It can obviously play the new “3HD” (3-dimensions) standard, which is really neat if you have one of those new holographic projectors. If you have subscribed to the (rather expensive) iTunes ‘Premium Hollywood’ service, you get all new movies on your iPod at the same moment when they are released in the cinemas. You only get them at consumer-grade HD resolution (2048×1080 - looks OK on that 50″ screen), not at the new DCI 8K standard for movie theatres (8192×4320 with HDR) but who’s complaining.

First Large-Scale Digital Donation Ensures Preservation of Digital Cultural Artifacts

Alexa Internet, provider of the free Web navigation service Alexa has donated a copy of the public World Wide Web to the Library of Congress, in the first large-scale contribution of digital materials received by the institution. With this donation, Alexa helps the Library of Congress take a major step toward preservation of the Web.

The donation, comprising two terabytes of Web content, is in the form of an interactive digital sculpture containing 44 digital tapes alongside four computer monitors. Titled World Wide Web 1997: 2 Terabytes in 63 Inches, the sculpture, by renowned digital artist Alan Rath, intermittently flashes pages from the 500,000 sites gathered and stored by Alexa Internet. The digital sculpture includes text, images and audio files representing a full "snapshot" of the Web from early 1997.

The donation complements the efforts of the Library of Congress's National Digital Library Program, which makes freely available on the Internet rare American historical items from the Library's collections. More than 1 million interesting and important manuscripts, films, sound recordings and photographs are currently on-line at www.loc.gov/. Alexa's donation represents the Library's largest and most significant collection of information "born digital," or information created and published through digital media such as the Web.

Orange France Announces HTC Dream Availability

Following UK's Vodafone launch of the HTC Magic Android-based smartphone, it seems that Orange France will be the first to bring the second Android phone – HTC Dream. Even though it is not a member of the Open Alliance, Orange managed to strike this deal that will see it as the only carrier that will offer the device in France. Also known as the G1, HTC Dream is already available in the US, UK, Germany an other countries, sold via T-Mobile. The supposed launch should take place on March 5th and it will give all the customers of the operator the chance to get their hands on the handset.

Orange France will make the device available for 99 Euros (€149 - €50 refunded). The smartphone will be sold with any package, but Orange recommends that customers subscribe to the Origami "More" offer to get the best capabilities of the handset. That will definitely benefit owners, as the phone is known to be an 'always online' device.
Packages include Origami Zen Plus unlimited access to the Internet, email, 50 hours of Wi-Fi hotspots on the operator, 10 SMS per month and unlimited calls to Orange numbers or 3 sets. They are charged €39 / month for 1 hour, €47 / month for 2 hours, €52 / month for 3 hours and €62 / month for 4 hours.

Origami Star Plus packages include unlimited access to the Internet, email, 50 hours of Wi-Fi hotspots on the operator, 20 TV channels, and sending unlimited SMS to all operators. They are charged between 42 and €95.

The flagship of Samsung's camera phones, namely Pixon M8800, has just been released in India and will be available for purchase starting this week.

Commenting on this week's launch, Sunil Dutt, country head, Samsung Telecom Division said, "Pixon is made for users who want to experience full multimedia entertainment on their mobile phone with the ease of a touch."

Fully equipped for multimedia purposes, Samsung Pixon joins the already launched devices such as Samsung Omnia (i900), Samsung TouchWiz (F480) and Samsung i780. The handset will be compatible with 3G networks (HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps), and it features a 3.2-inch WQVGA resistive touchscreen display (240 x 400 pixel resolution) and microSD card for memory expansion (up to 16GB).

The main attraction of the handset is obviously the 8 Megapixel camera (3264x2448 pixels) with autofocus, LED flash, geotagging, face, smile and blink detection, as well as image stabilization options. Sony Ericsson C905 Review

Sony Ericsson C905 is the first mobile phone to feature an 8 Megapixel camera, and the slider should be remembered even if only for that. Anyway, Sony Ericsson has fierce rivals such as Samsung and LG, who have also announced some 8 Megapixel camera phones, including Samsung INNOV8 and LG KC910. Unfortunately, C905 was released on the market one month after INNOV8, so its sales dropped a little bit than it was first expected. Nevertheless, time doesn't mean too much in the eyes of those that are looking for a good camera phone. If you are one of these people, then Sony Ericsson C905 will definitely not disappoint you. The solution is added to the Cyber-shot series portfolio, as the new high standard for future camera phones.

Announced in June 2008, Sony Ericsson C905 was made available on the market in October, the same year. As a high-end device, C905 can be acquired for about 520 US dollars, free of contract. Users can choose one of the four available colors, namely Night Black, Ice Silver, Copper Gold, or Tender Rose.

Design

At a first glance, Sony Ericsson looks much like LG's KC910, but a little bit bulkier. It features the same rounded top edge, just like Renoir's, but the resemblance stops here, as SE's slider doesn't have such a large touch screen display. Unfortunately, C905 is no sleek phone, measuring 104 x 49mm and 18mm in thickness (19.5mm with the camera module). Still, the unusual slider form factor makes C905 stand out from the rest of the Cyber-shot series of handsets. The phone is all covered in plastic, but that doesn't give it the impression of cheap at all. Both left and right sides are framed by a metallic stripe.

The rather small 2.4-inch display occupies 2/3 of the front part. You'll notice that above the screen, on both sides of the in-call speaker, there are two weird keys that are functional when the camera is used. They can also be used when the camera interface is closed to open up the image gallery (right key) or simply open the last image (the left key). There's also an ambient light sensor in the middle of the left button and in-call speaker. Below the screen, there are six buttons, symmetrically arranged on both sides of the big D-pad. These are 2 soft keys, the Accept and the Reject call ones, the Shortcut and the C (Delete) keys.

On the bottom, one can notice the speakerphone and a small lanyard eyelet. The left side of the phone features the proprietary Fast port and an M2 slot for the memory card, which is covered by a plastic stripe. The entire right side is full of camera-dedicated keys. Starting from the top, these are as follows: the Dual volume keys, which can also be used to zoom in/out, the Gallery one, the Camera Mode key (changes between camera and video modes), and the Shutter one. When slid up, a flat 4-row keypad is revealed, separated by thin metallic stripes. The buttons are responsive and generous in size.

The backlighting is perfectly even and strong enough, so users can text even in darker areas. The back hood of the phone is also made of plastic, except for the active lens cover, which seems to be made from a light, brushed metal. Only provided you slide down the lens cover, will you be able to notice the 8 Megapixel camera, a self-portrait mirror, a Xenon flash, a video microphone and an LED flash. The battery cover seems to be a little bit flimsy, but at least is easy to pull out.
Overall, Sony Ericsson C905 is a good looking device, much different than other Cyber-shot series handset. This is a very welcome change from SE, which has never changed its camera phone series look, no matter how bad was the user feedback.

Display and Camera

The 2.4-inch display makes the phone seem under-equipped, especially when compared with other features of the device, which are mostly top-notch. Nevertheless, the display is coated in a mineral glass, which is resistant to scratches. It supports 262K colors and a 240x320 pixel resolution. Contrast and brightness are exceptionally good, as in never before has Sony Ericsson come with such a good screen. Even outdoors, you'll be able to use it with no problems, a trait that has been usually missing in all other Cyber-shot phones. The main attraction of the slider is definitely the incredibly powerful 8.1 Megapixel camera with auto-focus, video light (also available as an assist light for shooting in darker areas), Xenon flash and video recording capabilities. Other cool functions include geotagging (“the process of adding geographical identification metadata to various media such as photographs and videos” – Wikipedia), Face detection, smart contrast, Red-eye reduction, BestPic, Image stabilizer and macro mode.
The interface of the camera is pretty complex, but user-friendly. When the camera interface is active, certain functions of the camera can be quickly accessed from the D-pad: Focus, Exposure, Flash and Self-timer. Also, the two keys above the screen can be used to access Scene and Shoot modes. All these camera control keys are blue lighted when camera interface is active, which makes it easier to identify them. The maximum resolution of the pictures is of 3264 x 2448, while the size varies between 2.3-2.8 MB.
The quality of the pictures is outstanding, as you can see from the samples below. Even the time that it takes to save the pictures is quite short. The noise effect is kept within limits, the contrast is exceptional, the level of detail is excellent, the “purple effect” is missing. In terms of video recording, the device captures movies in the QVGA resolution at 30fps in MPEG4 file format. It records movies with stereo sound, thanks to the extra microphone placed near the camera.
Overall, Sony Ericsson C905 is way above its predecessors in terms of capturing pictures, and will definitely be the perfect choice for those looking for a camera phone. The only thing that I have found missing and should've been embedded is the secondary camera for video-calls. Still, I believe that C905 is one of the best shooters available on the market at the moment.

Menu and Software

The specific Sony Ericsson user interface has been embedded into C905 as well, but some updates have been made in terms of device personalization and looks. The same Media center introduced together with the K850i model has also been added to C905, including the auto-rotate feature. There's also support for Flash Lite 2.0, so users can now take advantage of various animated themes, but also of some other Flash-based entertainment utilities. They get to choose from four different themes, each with its own specific abilities.

The main menu layout can be changed in accordance to the theme, or by choosing one of these options: grid, rotating and single icon. Wallpaper, startup screen and screen saver can also be personalized according to the user’s need. Also, there are seven profiles to choose from, more specifically Normal, Meeting, In car, Outdoors, Handsfree, Home, and Office. Besides these, C905 also includes a Flight mode, in case users don't want to use the GSM function of the handset.

There are few productivity tools that can be employed, such as Alarms (limited to 5), Tasks, Notes, Calendar, Timer, Stopwatch, Calculator, Light, AccuWeather, CamPlus, Slideshow Wall, World Clock 3D, PhotoMate, Code memo and a basic File manager. The Internet icon, as the name suggests, gives users access to basic Web browsing. Sony Ericsson C905 features the latest Access NetFront HTML browser 3.4, which seems to open any Webpage, no matter how much elaborated it is.

The Radio only works when the wired earphones are inserted. Location Services is the place where users can find some useful applications: Google Maps and Wayfinder Navigator 7. The Entertainment sub-folder contains a few functions more or less specific to the Walkman series devices, namely TrackID, MusicDJ, PhotoDJ, VideoDJ, Record sound, Remote control and Games (Kasparov Chess, Need for Speed Pro Street and Tennis Multiplay).

The Gallery can be found through the File manager in the folder called Camera Album, or in the Media center, and can also be accessed through the camera interface menu or directly by clicking the small key on the right of the in-call speaker.

The Java emulator works with just about any compatible application, like games or productivity software. Let's not forget the new service available from Sony Ericsson, Play Now, which offers maximum entertainment. Overall, SE's C905 user-interface puts at the individuals’ disposal quite a number of features and high functionality at an excellent price.

Communication

Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot is an all-connectivity tool, as it features the HSDPA 3.6Mbps technology, which greatly improves data transfers, but also solutions such as GPRS and EDGE class 10. When benchmarked, the phone has attained outstanding speeds: 826 Kbit/s download and 290 Kbit/s upload in 3G network. EDGE data transfers have been a little bit lower than expected, but have still reached speeds of 167 Kbit/s for download and 67 Kbit/s for upload services.

The handset is also compatible with Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP technology, and features USB 2.0 (no charging) and Wi-Fi connectivity. I have experienced data transfer speeds of up to 121 KB/s when sending files, and of 165 KB/s when receiving them through Bluetooth connectivity, which is way above the average. One useful thing that I have noticed is the fact that the Wi-Fi connectivity can be quickly accessed by clicking the Shortcut key below the screen.

The built-in GPS receiver makes a good addition for those active, young people, who are on the go most of the time. Applications like Google Maps and Wayfinder Navigator 7 will come really in handy with localizations. Unfortunately, I have noticed an annoying latency of the GPS, even when the A-GPS function was activated.

Messaging capabilities have been improved, and now offer a wider range of options. All messages share the same Inbox, except for emails, which have a separate one. You can now manage and categorize them the way you want, or you can simply use the pre-installed categories: Business, Favorites, Follow Up, Fun, Holiday and Important. The email service is fully compatible with the POP3 and SMTP clients.

The quad-band (GSM 850 / 900 / GSM 1800 / GSM 1900) network compatible handset has a good GSM signal reception. Unfortunately, while the level of clarity is outstanding when talking on the phone, the sound is a little bit lower than I have previously expected. Furthermore, the vibration is somewhat mediocre in intensity.

Processor and Memory

The C905 Cyber-shot bar phone features a medium power ARM9 family processor that runs at speeds up to 170 MHz. Again, I believe that C905 has been under-equipped, as the CPU is not powerful enough, so you will notice big lags when browsing the menu. Fortunately, the embedded Java emulator can handle any compatible large-size files (over 300KB), so third party applications can be installed with ease.

The phone comes with a 160MB internal memory, but features a micro M2 memory slot card to expand the storage space up to 8 GB. It has been placed on the left side of the phone, and an M2 card can be inserted without the need of powering off the phone (hot-swappable).
Also, the sales package contains a 2 GB M2 memory card and an M2 USB adapter, which might prove extremely valuable for those traveling a lot.

Multimedia

Sony Ericsson has done an excellent job at mixing high-end camera traits with music functions. C905 may be the answer for both music lovers and those looking for the best camera phone. The device offers almost the same quality in terms of music as a Walkman series one.

Equipped with Music Player 3.0, the slider supports MP3, AAC, AAC+, E-AAC+, WAV, WMA, M4A and MIDI file formats, and takes advantage of a great Equalizer that includes settings such as MegaBass and Treble.

Even with the earphones (HPM-62) included, the sound is above average in terms of quality, but it still cannot be compared with that delivered by handset any of the Walkman series. The FM radio supports RDS and can memorize up to 20 stations, while both the radio and the music player can be run in the background. Sony Ericsson C905 is definitely one of the best solutions for both: good pictures and good music.

Battery

Sony Ericsson C905 features a 930 mAh Li-Polymer battery, which has an official lifetime of approximately 380 hours in standby mode and 9 hours in talk-time mode. I have managed to reah a duration of up to 5 days of use. The overall talking time has been of 1 hour and 30 minutes and about 15 minutes in the case of data transfers. The music playback time is of nearly 15 hours with the display in standby mode. Overall, this is a high-quality battery of small dimensions that barely adds to the weight of the phone.

Impressions

For the first time, I have been really impressed by a Sony Ericsson mobile phone, starting with its design and features. Thanks to the new form factor imprinted, C905 is not just another Cyber-shot phone, but one of the best of this series. I'm pretty sure that this is the best camera handset manufactured by Sony Ericsson, but that won't last as the company has just announced the world's first 12.1 Megapixel camera.

The Good

Obviously, the strong point of the phone is the 8.1 Megapixel camera, but also the quality of the pictures taken. Together with the HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivities, the GPS and excellent display turn the C905 into the flagship of the Cyber-shot series.

The Bad

There are a couple of things that should be improved in the future Cyber-shot phones, and those include the low processor, which cannot handle the graphical UI as it should. Also, the fact that you get such a small display might be frustrating for those that want to watch movies or browse the Internet. Other drawbacks of the phone comprise the lack of a secondary camera or a document viewer.

Asus has recently announced the launch of a new mobile phone, one that will come under its own name, the Asus P835, as many representatives of Asus and Garmin informed a while ago about the forming of a strategic alliance for the development, manufacturing and distribution of mobile phones. On January 22nd – just before the Austin update – I had spent most of the day searching out directories to submit to.

I worked from lists of directories, and have now narrowed down a list of the best free ones to submit to, based primarily on their usefulness for SEO purposes.

Of course, there are other free directories that can be very useful specifically for internet marketing puposes. However, this list focusses on SEO advantages only. All those that use a redirected link (ie, jump.php?your-link) are out, as are those directories that do not even have their content pages spidered (I judged that on the basis of them having pages cached by Google or not).

All of the following with therefore list your link, for free, and leave your link to be spidered as a backlink by search engines.

Nokia announces new products and services at MWC

At the Mobile World Congress today, Nokia has announced a range of exciting new products, with information following below.

One of its new products is the E55 smartphone. The phone has many interesting features, including the fact it is the worlds thinnest smartphone, but another great thing about it is that it can have up to a month standby battery life, "Maybe the most of any smartphone in the world."

The phone itself uses a half Qwerty keypad, which Nokia calls 'compact'. It is also noted that Nokia uses the most high quality materials to build the phone, increasing the general durability of it. It will be available for 265 euros this Summer, which is an unsubsidized price. It wasn't clarified if this would be tied to any specific carrier.

Secondly, a new phone called the Nokia E75 has been announced. It has a range of features, one of which being that it is the first Nokia phone with Nokia Messaging built right in. It is a full Qwerty-capable phone, with the keyboard on a slider. It will be available for pre-order on Nokia's site today, and shipping next month, for 375 euros.

A new service has been announced, touted as a next generation media delivery system, named the Ovi Store. This isn't a regular store; it takes social networking features into account, meaning it knows what your friends are buying, etc. Download, Mosh and widgets are going to be the main focus of the store, and the first device with the Ovi Store integrated into it will be the Nokia N97. Luckily, S40 and S60 customers will be able to download the service starting in May. CEO of Nokia, Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo, said, "Over time, the service will start to learn your tastes and anticipate what you might want." Interestingly, it will also recommend applications based on your location. Certainly a unique app store feature.

Nokia, not one to be left behind, has also announced that the store will have monetized features, with access at publish.ovi.com. 70% of the revenue from the apps will go to developers, with 30% going to Nokia. Nokia's already hit the ground running with the Ovi store with a range of partners already announced; EA, MySpace, Facebook, Qik, Lonely Planet and even Fox.
